March will start with sleet and snow

The weekend will continue to be cold and unsettled with further rain or showers at times.

THE FIRST DAY of March will see sleet and snow, according to Met Éireann.

The weather service says that this week will be mostly cold, damp and windy. Tomorrow will see scattered heavy showers, prolonged in northern areas. Highest temperatures will reach 7 to 9 degrees, but will feel colder due to wind chill from fresh to strong northwesterly winds.

Tomorrow night will be cold with showers for a time, but will become mainly dry, with frost developing as temperatures fall to between -1 and + 2 degrees Celsius. Rain will spread in the southwest and south later in the night.

Wednesday will see rain spreading northwards during the day falling as sleet in midland and northern areas with “possibly some snow on higher ground in northern and northwestern areas in the evening”.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with rain or showers in most areas at times, with temperatures staying settled.

The weekend will continue to be cold and unsettled with further rain or showers at times.
