A 34-YEAR-OLD Northern Irish man has been found dead in Cambodia.

It’s understood that Martin Stephen Hale, a native of Banbridge, Co Down, was found dead in his guesthouse in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. His cause of death is as yet unknown.

“We are providing support to the family of a British man who has died in Phnom Penh,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement.

Our sympathies are with them at this time.

A second man, believed to be Martin’s cousin, is understood to have gone missing after being taken to hospital from the guesthouse. He has since been located.

Local Banbridge MP David Simpson told the Belfast News Letter that Martin’s death is “obviously a very traumatic and shocking time”, adding that he was working with the Foreign Office to return Martin’s body home.

The added complications of it happening so far away from home make it even more difficult for any family.
