Man in his 60s dead after two cars collide in Mayo

The collision occurred around 10am this morning on the R312, Keenagh Crossroads, County Mayo.

A MAN IN his 60s has died after a two-car collision in Mayo.

The collision occurred around 10am this morning on the R312, Keenagh Crossroads, County Mayo.

A man in his mid 60s, who was the sole occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and has been removed to Mayo General Hospital. The occupants of the second car, a male and female in their early 30s have been brought to Mayo General with non life threatening injuries.

The road has been closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.

The man has been named as Matty Merrick, a local An Post employee.

David Redmond, An Post’s CEO said he was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Merrick. He extended his deepest sympathy and that of An Post to Mr. Merrick’s family and his work colleagues.

Witnesses are asked to contact Belmullet Garda Station on 097-81910, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
