Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Mayo

The driver and two passengers were not injured in the collision.

A MAN IN his 80s has been killed in a road collision in Co Mayo overnight.

The incident occurred at 1am this morning on the N60 at Lugatemple, Claremorris. The man was fatally injured when he was struck by a car. He is the 15th pedestrian to be killed on Irish roads this year.

The driver and two passengers in the car were not injured. The man’s body has been taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The road at the scene is closed this morning to facilitate an examination of the crash site by garda forensic collision investigators. Diversions are in place.
