Why doesn't McDonald's deliver?

And will it?

IT’S A QUESTION often asked by a lazy, unhealthy generation.

Why, when the urge for a double cheeseburger strikes, can’t you have somebody bring it to you for a reasonable fee?

Some would even go beyond the reasonable fee:

Seriously, lots of people ask this question every day:

McDonalds

The answer is one that won’t fill those desperate for home delivery with hope.

While McDonald’s does deliver in certain parts of the world, mostly the US, it says that delivering food is not a priority on this side of the pond.

“We are committed to serving our customers hot food, fresh from the kitchen.

“We have trialled delivery services both at select locations in the UK and in a number of European markets, but it is currently not a priority.”

As the company says, their food is best served hot. Anyone who has ever reheated a McDonald’s burger will tell you that. In the States, Burger King says it has technology that will keep a burger fresh on delivery.

The reasons for McDonald’s stance is down to one thing: its business model isn’t based around delivering.

A large number of franchised quick-service restaurants have small profit margins that require a large volume of sales.

Pizza restaurants, which are known for deliveries, operate on a higher profit margin, so can afford to make fewer sales.

Add to that the cost of developing an infrastructure to deliver food and profits could take a hit.
