VOLUNTEERS ARE CONTINUING to comb parts of Galway in the search for missing student Michael Bugler.

The NUIG student, who is aged 20, was last seen on Friday 18 December at about 1am in the Quay Street area of Galway city.

A large number of volunteers met again this morning at Calasanctius College in Ornamore at 10am to be briefed by gardaí before the search resumed. Galway is currently experiencing heavy rain and some bad weather conditions.

Last sightings

CCTV footage that was examined as part of the search showed Michael passing the Claddagh church at 00.58am – it is thought he was on his way to his home on Fairhill Road.

His sister Laura has said that there were some potential sightings at the Gort na Coirbe student village on Headford Road at 3am that same morning. Yesterday, she thanked volunteers for their work “to try and bring Michael home to us”.

Michael is described as:

  • 5’9″ in height
  • Of thin build
  • Has short brown hair
  • Has blue eyes

He is originally from Ennis in county Clare, and is a third year student at NUIG.

Searches have been ongoing for Michael Bugler since the alarm was raised. A vigil was held for him at Barefield church on Saturday.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who has any information on his whereabouts to contact them at Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
