Michael D to arrive in London on first official trip abroad

The president is due to visit the Olympic site in east London and meet with Irish emigrants.

PRESIDENT MICHAEL D Higgins is due to travel to London today on his first official trip abroad since his inauguration in November.

During the two-day visit President Higgins will give a lecture at the London School of Economics and Political Science and meet with Irish emigrants at the London Irish Centre in Camden in north London.

He will also visit the Olympic Park in east London and attend a performance of Juno and the Paycock, which is a joint production between the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and the National Theatre of Great Britain.

He is due to arrive in London later today. His address, entitled ‘Of Public Intellectuals, Universities, and a Democratic Crisis’ will be delivered at LSE this evening.

The President will be accompanied by his wife Sabina on the trip.
