THE SEVEN-YEAR-OLD daughter of Government minister Micheal Martin has died in hospital.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal and his wife Mary were at the bedside of their youngest girl, Leana, when she died today in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
A statement from the family said they were “heartbroken” at losing Leana, who was believed to have suffered health problems for some time. RTE News reported that she had been in Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin for two weeks before being moved to London earlier this week as her condition deteriorated. The statement added:
She was a beautiful light in our lives.
Minister Martin has two sons and another daughter. In their statement to the media, the Martins appealed for space and privacy to deal with the loss.

@Patrick Connolly: We were stranded in Bulgaria at that time. I kept at them, wrote a strongly worded and detailed description and got 100% reimbursement. We had to book 3 flights (6 seats in total) to get home. They were very good to deal with TBH.
It was fine. I just flew from Dublin to Munich. They had a closing flight queue that people who arrived later could use. App and self-checking were down but staff adapted admirably.
I have just gone through….fair is fair , Aer Lingus were brilliant , same time to get my boarding pass (20 mins) as before self check in was invented , the queues look big , but Aer Lingus are flying through them…….
@Philip Cullen: how do you know it was their fault? How donyiu known it wasn’t their hosting company, or Internet provider? No company host or manage their own apps. Its outsources to specialist providers, and hosted on the likes of Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud or Micrpsoft Azure, or another hosting company. Thats where the issue lies. Not with Aer Lingus. This was more of a hassle for them thananyone trying to fly with them today.
@Barry Sorensen: well no Barry, regardless of whether it’s outsourced or not, Aerlingus are fully responsible. Any operationally critical systems should have independent redundancies, something aerlingus promised to do after last September’s fiasco, and clearly haven’t implemented.
