THE GRIEVING FATHER of murdered Michaela Harte has pleaded with the local press in Mauritius to give his son-in-law the time to grieve in peace.
Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte told reporter Adrian Logue on RTÉ’s Six One news this evening that his family were “all devastated” by the death of Michaela (27), who was found dead in her hotel room at the Hotel Legends in Mauritius yesterday. She and her husband, Down footballer John McAreavey, while on honeymoon.
“Michaela was a lovely girl,” said an obviously distressed Harte. “She was a beautiful girl, couldn’t be nicer, and God love her, we are so so sorry.
And we’re equally sorry for poor John – John McAreavey, her husband – whom she adored, and he adored her. They didn’t get so long to share their live with each other. It’s just such a shame.
Saying that the McAreavey family had become “so special” to his own through Michaela’s marriage, Harte said the thoughts of his own family were with John as he remained in Mauritius. He said:
He’s had an awful time.. our hearts go out to him. And I would ask anybody in the press corps out there – please respect his privacy. The lad is devastated.
We’re speaking on his behalf: he’s devastated. Through us, he wants to say: leave him alone. Let him grieve. He’s in such a lonely place, and even his own family members aren’t out there yet. So please, please, back off.
Michaela and John were married on December 30, and had arrived in Mauritius from Dubai, on the second leg of their honeymoon. Michaela was found strangled in the bathroom of their hotel room yesterday. Post-mortem results later confirmed that she had died from ‘asphyxia due to compression of the neck’.
Police investigating the death, which is being treated as murder, were earlier questioning six suspects in relation to Michaela’s killing, but say they will not be making any further announcements until 5am Irish time.
Imelda, always comes across so well. I hope her and the Husband are accorded they privacy they deserve at this time. She is a fantastic ambassador for Ireland
Very sorry to hear this and wish her, her soon to be ex husband Darrel and daughter Violet all the best. It can’t be easy living in the public eye knowing you have to make these things public before a newspaper does.

Whilst this may be true. I think it’s because people demand happiness now and won’t stay in bad marriages to save face. Think of all the cranky old people down the pub or in your neighbourhood who hate each other. What a waste of life. Much better to be happy. Life is too short.
I agree and it’s fine if both want to split but when one doesn’t it’s heartbreaker. Maybe people are expecting perfection. Believe me it doesn’t exist.

So sorry to hear about the breakup ! Can’t believe it as Imelda always said how happy they were not to mention that Darrel is such a big part of the band. Always loved her song about their early days in Camden when all they had was love. People give up too easily I feel!

She always looked so innocent and lovable when she presented a show. Not really into her music but no doubt she is very talented but when you hear her presenting you just want to give her a big hug. Strikes me as a harmless lovable person. I hope she will be OK.

Tabloid media are sċumbags, a pox on them. It should be nobody’s interest beyond Imelda, Darrel and their immediate circle and it’s horrible that she had to make this statement to take the wind out of some tacky muckraking headline.
When I eventually found testimonies about this sorceress mama jaja, how she helped many people to get their relationship back, i contacted her through her email address because I was absolutely desperate to get my husband back. Life without my husband was a real mess for me and my children. i wanted a dramatic change and I thought magic could be the solution.
