Despite his conviction for the girl’s murder, this is the first time he has ever admitted it to police.

SERIAL KILLER LEVI Bellfield has for the first time admitted murdering British teenager Milly Dowler in 2002.

The 13-year-old girl was on her way home from school when she was snatched. Her body was later found in a wooded area. She had been raped and experts were unable to determine the cause of death.

When Bellfield went on trial for the girl’s murder, he was already in prison for the murders of Amelie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell and for the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.

Today Surrey Police said Bellfield, who now calls himself Yusuf Rahim, had admitted his responsibility for the abduction, rape and murder of Milly Dowler.

“Despite his conviction, this is the first time Bellfield has made such admissions to police,” they said in a statement.

His confession came during an investigation into whether the serial killer had an accomplice. Police said they arrested a man in his 40s today in relation to allegations of rape and assisting an offender.

Police have thoroughly investigated this claim and as the final part of their inquiries made the arrest today. The man arrested has subsequently been released with no further action as no evidence has been found to support the allegations.

They said the murdered girl’s family have requested that their privacy should be respected “as they continue to grieve for the loss of their beloved daughter Milly in such appalling circumstances”.
