THE FAMILY OF a couple who’ve been missing for seven months have said they’re being “torn apart” by their continued disappearance.

William Maughan (34) and Anastasija Varslavane (20) were last seen in the Gormanstown area of east Meath on 14 April and have not been heard from since.

Gardaí say they are very concerned for their safety and are understood to be investigating whether or not they have been murdered.

‘Willie’ and ‘Anna’ lived in a caravan in Gormanstown and used to hang about in the Balbriggan, Stamullen and Gormanston areas of north Dublin and Meath but have not been seen since their disappearance.

Speaking at garda press conference held today, Helen Maughan pleaded for some information about their disappearance:

No parents deserve to go through what we’re going through. My family are just torn apart by this. As a mother I’m just asking and pleading, just pick the phone up give my child back, give me Anna back.

Varslavane is of Latvian origin but has been living in Ireland for a number of years. She is described as being 5’6” in height, of slim build and with long dark hair.

Maughan is 5′ 8” in height, of athletic build and has a shaved head with green eyes.

A number of appeals have been made to trace their whereabouts since they went missing and there is a dedicated incident room Ashbourne Garda Station handling the case.

“We are extremely concerned for the welfare and safety of both William and Anna it is completely out of character for them to go missing in this fashion,” according to garda Superintendent James Cannon.

Cannon urges anyone with information to get in touch and stresses that information can be left anonymously.

“Callers do not need to leave their name or address. You may receive a reward for information which significantly helps Gardaí in their investigation.”

If you have information you would like to share you can contact Ashbourne Garda Station on 01-8010600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station. You can also contact Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25. Calls to Crimestoppers are dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
