Man killed as motorbike and car collide in Monaghan

The 29-year old died at the scene. The two occupants of the car were uninjured.

A 29-YEAR-OLD man has died after his motorbike collided with a car on the main Monaghan Town to Clones road last night.

The crash happened near the small village of Smithborough at around 9pm.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to Cavan mortuary where a post mortem will be carried out this morning.

The two occupants of the car were uninjured.

A section of the road remains closed this morning as forensic tests are carried out, and local diversions are in place.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact gardaí in Monaghan on 047 77200.
