John Galvin: another injury setback. INPHO/Cathal Noonan

More injury woe for Limerick talisman John Galvin

The midfielder sustained ‘severe cruciate damage’ to his knee in the Allianz League game against Fermanagh last weekend.

JOHN GALVIN’S WORST fears were realised today when doctors confirmed the Limerick midfielder had  suffered a another cruciate ligament injury.

The Croom clubman suffered the latest injury setback during Limerick’s game with Fermanagh on Sunday. Galvin only returned to action last month having suffered a similar injury which ruled him out of last year’s championship action.

“I’m gutted,” he told RTÉ radio earlier. “I was living in a bit of hope that it wasn’t what I thought it was. There’s severe damage to the cruciate so it is what I thought it was.

“There’s good news and bad news. There’s serious damage to the cruciate but there is a chance that I could take some part in the championship this year so I have to do my rehab over the next four weeks and hopefully come back and see how it is in four weeks’ time.”

After the game with the Erne County at the weekend, Limerick manager Maurice Horan told reporters: “Last time he did it, we didn’t think it was as serious as it was.

“”He was in shock after it happened because it took a while to sink in. It’s terrible for John because he was so single-minded in his rehabilitation over the past 12 months. It was very impressive to watch.”
