Woman accused of drowning her three children starves to death

She was charged with murdering her children in 2012.

A QUEBEC WOMAN accused of killing her three children died today, following a hunger strike.

According to local media, a court was due to set a date for her trial today.

Sonia Blanchette was charged with drowning her children, aged two to five years, in December 2012 – at the height of a custody dispute with her partner.

Blanchette had been granted supervised visits with her son and two daughters, but on the day of their death, she was left alone with them.

Jailed since her arrest, she began a hunger strike several months ago and was moved to a hospital in December weighing only five-and-a-half stone, according to public broadcaster Radio-Canada.
