The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have advised motorists of the closures following reports of a suspicious device being left on the A1, RTÉ reports.

Police have closed the southbound carriageway from Sheepbridge interchange, north of Newry city.

Gardaí have placed diversions on the M1 from junction 18 northbound.
