Man accused of killing Gareth Hutch stabbed in Mountjoy

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Updated 2pm

TWO INMATES IN Mountjoy Prison have been injured in an attack this morning.

Gardaí confirmed the two men, aged in their 20s and 30s were stabbed in the prison at around 11am.

Sources have said one of the victims is 29-year-old Thomas Fox from Rutland Court in Dublin 1, who is currently awaiting trial in connection with the fatal shooting of Gareth Hutch, nephew of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch.

It is understood one of the men was attacked on the landing of the prison and the second came to his aid and was also injured. One sustained a head injury and the other received an injury to his foot.

Prison sources suspect a scissors may have been used in the attack.

The victims are receiving medical attention and their injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.

No arrests have been made and gardaí and the Irish Prison Service are both investigating how the incident occurred.
