GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED a murder investigation after the body of a man was discovered at a Waterford apartment yesterday morning.

The body of 48-year-old Abdi Rasheed Kaaheen Shire, a Somali national, was discovered at an apartment on Wellington Street at around 9.20am.

Gardaí, who were treating the death as ‘suspicious’, have now upgraded the investigation to a murder enquiry.

A post-mortem examination has been completed but for operational reasons gardaí are not releasing details.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for information, in particular they are appealing to members of the local and extended Somali community who may be in a position to assist.
