Motorist in his 20s killed after collision with lorry in Westmeath

A MAN IN his 20s has died this evening after a collision between the car he was driving, and a lorry, in Co Westmeath.

According to Gardaí, the incident happened at around 4.55 pm at Dalystown, on the N52 Tyrellspass to Mullingar road.

The man – who was the only occupant of the car – died at the scene, where his body remains this evening.

The male driver of the truck was taken to Tullamore General Hospital, and treated for minor injuries.

The road remains closed this evening while a forensic collision examination occurs, and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are investigating the incident, and have asked witnesses to call Mullingar Garda station on 044-938-400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or contact any Garda station.

This evening’s fatality brings to 117 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far in 2015, which is a decrease of 18 from the same period last year.
