Three bombs discovered in vehicle during garda search in Kildare

The Defence Forces were called to the scene.

GARDAÍ WHO WERE examining a vehicle as part of an investigation discovered three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at a commercial garage at Newhall, Naas, yesterday afternoon.

The area was sealed off and a cordon was put in place shortly after 4pm. The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team attended the scene and the three bombs were removed for further examination.

At 9.30pm, the area was declared safe and traffic restrictions were lifted. Gardaí said that investigations are ongoing.

A spokesman for the Defence Forces confirmed that a forensic examination of the devices will now take place.

He said: “The Defence Forces deployed the Army Bomb Disposal team on request from gardaí. A cordon was established in the surrounding area to ensure public safety.

“The Army Bomb Disposal team arrived at 4.15pm, carried out an assessment and proceeded to make safe the three suspect devices. The devices have now been removed to a secure military installation for further examination. Material of an evidential nature will be handed over to An Garda Síochána.”

As a resident of Nass, I’d like to confirm that the location where they were found was actually closer to Newbridge……. ;-)
Nass – a nice place to shop.

Doesn’t the town land fall within Naas? Then it’s Naas. If you were selling a house out there it would definitely be a Naas address. €

@Brian Byrne: Haha. Between a man being caught with machine gun bullets on the way to Newbridge last week and car bombs on the Naas exit of the motorway, the greater Naas/Newbridge area is under attack.

I’ve been saying Tougher’s was Newbridge turf for years. Glad to see Shelbyville finally relinquish their claim. Oh and Newbridge is a much better place to shop because we didn’t build our shops haphazardly on the outskirts of the town

@Awkward Seal: Haha. I’m pretty sure there’s a lemon tree somewhere in the Red Lane golf club ;) What would you expect from Naas? They have a snake as a symbol of the town.

    A lot of questions:

    Who, why, for what, where?

It’s 2017 on a generally peaceful Tiny island now. Why would three people have bombs in a rural part of Ireland and for what purpose?

I mean obv sectarian activity can be the only thing I can think of but Kildare, 2017, rural area I haven’t heard of bombs in years??
