Portraits of Bob and BOD now hang on the walls of the National Gallery of Ireland

The photographic portraits of Bob Geldof, Brian O’Driscoll and actor and writer Olwen Fouéré are part of the gallery’s ‘New Portraits’ display.

THE NATIONAL GALLERY Of Ireland has three more Irish faces staring down from its walls.

The photographic portraits of musician and activist Bob Geldof, actor and writer Olwen Fouéré and rugby player Brian O’Driscoll have been included as part of the gallery’s ‘New Portraits’ exhibition which opens tomorrow.

The three portraits are by Paris-based Irish artist and photographer Kevin Abosch whose past subjects have included political and cultural figures such Johnny Depp, Yoko Ono and Aung San Suu Kyi.

These three portraits have been acquired by the gallery are part of Abosch’s ‘Faces’ series and will sit alongside other as paintings, drawings and sculptures of famous faces

The National Gallery say that portraiture has always been central to the their display with the national portrait collection being housed there since 1872.

‘New Portraits’ will run from tomorrow until February 2014 in the Millennium Wing of the NGI with admission free.
