More than 40 Intreo Centres to be active by February 2014

Jobseekers can receive payments and supports at the new centres.

THE DEPARTMENT OF Social Protection has said there will be 43 Intreo centres open and active by the end of next month.

The one-stop shops for jobseekers will provide both social welfare payments and employment supports in the one place.

“There are a number of new features in the Intreo service which were not a part of the old social welfare local office model,” explained Minister Joan Burton.

Services will include client profiling, one-to-one meetings and progress monitoring.

According to the department, integrated decision-making processes will lead to quicker turnaround times on applications.

Of the 43 centres already open or due to be open by 1 Febuary 2014, ten are in Dublin. The remaining 33 are spread across the country.
