The updated Renault Captur gets a fresh face and added tech

New colour and trim options, plus restyled lights and bumpers for Captur crossover.

RENAULT HAS RELEASED details of its updated Captur crossover.

The updated version gets some new design features to make it look more like its bigger sibling, the Kadjar. The radiator grille has been tweaked to bring it more in line with the rest of the Renault crossover family members and it gets a new chrome stripe. Both the rear and front bumper incorporated new skid plates, to add some ruggedness to the body.

The bottom of the front bumper incorporates the Renault signature C-shaped LED daytime running lights and the rear lights also get this look. The new Captur can also be specified with a fixed glass roof, and 16 or 17-inch wheels in three types.

Adding to the two-tone colour scheme are three new body colours: Desert Orange, Ocean Blue and Amethyst as well as a new Mercury Silver option for the roof. This means there will be 36 potential colour combos.

The cabin gets some nice added tech and connectivity features. The entry level R&GO system transforms smartphones into connected tablets installed in its universal cradle. This enables users to access the car’s most useful functions – including telephone, multimedia, vehicle data and navigation – via an in-app purchase.

On certain models, and for the first time on the Captur, Blind Spot Warning is available. This system detects the presence of moving vehicles, including motorbikes and bicycles, in the door mirror blind spots. When a vehicle is detected in the driver’s blind spot for longer than a second, a warning indicator immediately lights up in the door mirror.

Another new addition, which available on higher trim level versions, is Hands Free Parking. In order for this system to work, the driver begins by indicating what type of parking space they are looking for – parallel, perpendicular, angular. With the car travelling at speeds below 30km/h, the system detects all available spaces. Once a suitable space has been identified, the system calculates and co-ordinates the vehicle’s steering, meaning the driver does not need to touch the wheel and can focus solely on acceleration and braking.

The new Renault Captur goes on sale in the summer of this year.
