The all-new Subaru Impreza has a much improved cabin and new tech

The rugged family hatch will go on sale in Ireland later this year.

THE NEW SUBARU Impreza has been revealed but many of the new car’s details are being kept under wraps until its full debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The Impreza is a rugged family hatchback that comes with all-wheel drive as standard. Subaru is saying this new version “has been built to be safe and secure with a fun driving experience”.

The fifth-generation of the compact hatch is the second car to use Subaru’s new Global Platform, the first being the XV. The new platform sets the car’s center of gravity 5mm lower which should improve handling and stability. Subaru’s global platform preserves the distinctive combination of boxer engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

The same 114hp 1.6-litre petrol engine that is in the outgoing model will be available in the new model, with hopefully more engine options being added to the range to broaden the car’s appeal.

Although we haven’t been shown the interior yet, the car is already on sale in America and Japan and should be quite similar. The interiors of those cars are a huge improvement on the old model. They feature either a 6.5 or 8-inch (depending on model) centrally-mounted infotainment screen and new safety features.

There is no word on Irish prices, yet but it is due to go on sale here by the end of this year.

The new Subaru Impreza gets its full debut on 12 September at the 67th Frankfurt International Motor Show.
