7 new SUVs hitting Irish roads in time for 172 plates

Thinking of buying a 172 SUV? Here are some new arrivals for your consideration.

THE 172 REGISTRATION period kicks off next month with a whole host of new and updated models on the way to tempt buyers. We’ve rounded up seven new SUVs coming to a dealer near you wearing fresh new 172 plates.

1. Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Newspress Newspress

This is the Italian marque’s first SUV. The car won’t be here until October/November, but from all reports so far, it will be worth the wait. The Stelvio will be available with both petrol and diesel engines mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with both rear wheel drive and Q4 all-wheel drive systems.

The premium SUV is set to rival the Audi Q5 and Jaguar F-Pace, so expect it to start in the region of €45,000 to €50,000.

2. Dacia Duster SE Summit

To celebrate five years in Ireland, Dacia is releasing a limited number of special edition Duster SE Summit models, which will get here in July. As the name suggests, the SE Summit sits at the top of the range and provides extra kit and an exclusive metallic paint colour. The car is available with a 110hp 1.5-litre dCi engine with either a manual gearbox from €21,390, an Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) auto gearbox from €22,890, or an all-wheel drive version with manual gearbox, priced from €23,390.

3. Range Rover Velar

The handsome new Range Rover Velar mid-sized luxury SUV slots between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport for size and price. It is built on the same aluminium architecture as the Jaguar F-Pace.

There are five engines in the line-up – two petrols and three diesels. All engines are matched to ZF eight-speed automatic transmissions with all-wheel drive and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics. There is no official pricing yet, but the Evoque starts at €41,745 and the Sport starts at €74,585, so we could be looking at a €60,000 price tag for the Velar.

4. Mazda CX-5

5. Opel Crossland X
