Happy New Year! This is how the world celebrated 2016's arrival

Cities and countries across the world took part in the celebrations.

CELEBRATIONS TOOK PLACE across the globe as each country and city welcomed 2016, starting off with Samoa and Kiribati – both are fourteen hours ahead of Ireland – before finishing up in Baker Island and Howland Island at 10am (Irish time).

The skies were filled with fireworks, numerous champagne bottles were opened, and many people joined hands and tried to remember the words to Auld Lang Syne beyond the first verse (probably).

Each country had its own way of welcoming in 2016 so here’s how some of them celebrated.
