Cancel that walk. New Year's Day kicks off with status yellow weather warning

Don’t open the curtains just yet.

200

WAS THIS YOU last night? Feeling a little on the rough side this morning?

It’s tradition for many people to take a good long stroll on New Year’s Day and blow off last year’s cobwebs.

However, in typical Irish weather fashion, it’s hardly the driest day out there today.

The new year has kicked off with a status yellow weather wind warning for Dublin, Wexford, Wicklow, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford.

Southerly winds will reach average speeds of 45 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h later on this morning and these will continue until later in the evening.

Sorry to break it to you, but not only is it going to be pretty windy out there today, but heavy rain will become widespread this morning.

The rain will gradually clear south eastwards this evening and early tonight.

The good news… if it helps, the temperatures going to be between 12 to 14 degrees.

Maybe cancel that walk and put on a box set by the fire. Enjoy!
