The 3.69kg newborn arrived into the world at five seconds past midnight.

THE FIRST BABY born in 2014 must have been very impatient to arrive – because she made her entrance into the world at exactly five seconds past midnight.

Emily is the daughter of Brian and Monica Duff from Griffith Avenue, and was born at the National Maternity Hospital at Holles St in Dublin.

She weighed 3.69kg and has two older siblings, Matthew and Michelle.

The second baby born in the hospital in 2014 arrived at one minute past midnight, and was a boy born to the Keating family at the same hospital.

At the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospita, the second baby born in Ireland in 2014 was named as Eloise Browne, who arrived at 20 seconds past midnight. Her mother is Eugenia Lomax-Browne and father is Owen Browne, who are from Firhouse. She was 6lbs, 8oz.

At Galway University Hospital, a baby girl weighing 3.64kg was born to Aissatou Bah at 18 minutes past midnight.

At Portiuncula Hospital, a baby girl was born at 12.15am, weighing 3.33kg, to mum Rosaleen.

At the Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin, a baby boy was born to Aiying Chen (29) at 24 minutes past midnight. He is Chen’s third child.

At Cavan General Hospital, the first 2014 baby was born at 12.55am, a baby girl weighing 6lbs 13oz. It was a busy night at this hospital, with four further births before 11am this morning.

At Cork University Maternity Hospital, the first baby born in 2014 appeared just before 2am, while since then five girls and three boys have all been born to their families.

Dylan Cotter was born at 1.58am to parents Lorna and David, from Castlemartyr.

At Kerry General Hospital, the first baby was born at 7.10am.
