Gardaí appeal for information on 12-year-old Dublin murder

Niall Mulvihill was shot as he drove in Dublin city centre.

GARDAÍ IN DUBLIN have renewed their appeal for information about a 12-year-old murder.

Gardaí at Store Street are appealing to any member of the public with information in relation to the murder of Niall Mulvihill on 23 January 2003.

At around 9:30pm on the night a shooting occurred at Spencer Dock Bridge, that left Niall Mulvihill, who was driving from Upper Sheriff Street towards Seville Place in his red estate Mercedes taxi, dead.

Gardaí say that a dark coloured car pulled alongside Mulvihill’s car and both vehicles stopped.

A passenger in the dark vehicle approached Niall’s taxi and discharged a number of shots at close range from a handgun, fatally wounding him.

The victim placed his hazard lights on and managed to drive up Seville Place through the junction of Seville Place and Amiens Street. He then continued up Portland Row onto the North Circular Road passing through two further major junctions until he was involved in a collision with a number of cars at the junction of North Circular Road / Dorset Street junction.

He was removed by Dublin Fire Brigade to the Mater Hospital where he later pronounced dead.

Gardaí at Store Street believe that there are people who have information which would assist them in this investigation and they are appealing for them to contact the incident room at Store St Garda station on 01 6668000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
