'She had so much yet to give': Mourners share fond memories at funeral of Nicola Collins

The young mother’s body was found in her home last week.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS of Nicola Collins gathered at a church in Tralee yesterday to mourn her sudden and violent death.

Nicola’s body was found in her home in the Popham’s Road area of Farranree in Cork City in the early hours of last Monday morning.

The priest who held the funeral mass at Our Lady and St Brendan’s Church in Tralee, said that the local community was in shock at Nicola’s death.

Father Padraig Walsh told mourners that the community was struggling with the tragic news.
“Nobody deserved to die as Nicola did. We struggle to come to terms with her death and the way she was taken from us through such violent means,” he said according to Radio Kerry.
Father Walsh said that in the aftermath of her death, her family have been sharing fond memories of Nicola.

Even her last visit to Tralee, sometime recently, she called to see a former neighbour who was sick at the time.

“Nicola had given so much and had so much yet to give.”

Her sister Carly recalled some of Nicola’s talents and interests.

She loved music. In younger years she was in fact a dab hand at the piano.

“More than once she attracted into her life little kittens who needed a home. It was as though these little kittens had found a friend they could trust in her.”

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene of the crime, but was later released with a file set to be prepared for the DPP.
