Woman who died in a car crash a day after giving birth laid to rest

“Nicola’s last great joy in life was to become a mother to baby Lily Rose.”

A WOMAN FROM Thurles, who died a day after giving birth to her daughter, was laid to rest today.

Nicola Kenny was killed when a truck crashed into her car while it was pulled over in the hard shoulder of the M8 to Dublin.

Her mother and aunt were also in the car at the time.

Nicola is believed to have been travelling to see her newborn daughter Lily Rose when the fatal accident occurred on Monday.

At the funeral, held in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, Father Vincent Stapleton said that Nicola’s sudden passing “has left a cloud hanging over us and none more so than her loving family and many friends, neighbours and work colleagues”.

Nicola’s last great joy in life was to become a mother to baby Lily Rose.

Nicola’s godchild Teegan brought forward a Minnie Mouse headband to represent Nicola’s love of Disney, while other family members brought other symbolic items, including a CD, runners and a framed photo of Nicola with her friends.

After the accident, a friend of Nicola’s uploaded a photo to her social media account of Nicola embracing her niece and nephew, with one person commenting underneath the photo to say “this pic sums up Nicola completely.”

Father Stapleton thanked all mourners “who have travelled in such large numbers”.

“Your presence and your prayers make a huge difference and are deeply appreciated by the family.”
