Men blackmailed after being filmed performing sex acts

The victims were told the recordings would be posted online if they did not transfer money.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have issued a warning after a number of men who were filmed performing sex acts fell victim to online blackmail.

The PSNI said it had received ”several local reports of cyber-related blackmail” from men who had been asked to film sex acts by blackmailers.

The blackmailers then threatened to upload the footage online if they did not transfer money to their bank accounts.

The PSNI said most victims were told to pay into a Western Union account in the Ivory Coast.

‘Embarrassed’

The Belfast Telegraph reports that men were targeted in the Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Antrim areas of Co Antrim.

Detective Sergeant Neil Maxwell said: We want anyone who has been the victim of this type of crime to come forward.

Do not feel pressurised into paying money as this is unlikely to resolve the issue.
We are seeing an increase in these types of crime and we can help you.

Some victims transferred money, he said, “because they felt embarrassed”.
