Obama speaks in College Green, Dublin in 2011. PA

Poll: Should Barack Obama be handed the Freedom of Dublin?

Councillors were unable to agree on the proposal by Dublin’s Lord Mayor last night.

HE WOWED THE crowds when he came here in 2011 – supping pints with the Taoiseach, hanging out with his cousin Henry ‘the 8th’ Healy – so much that we named a motorway plaza after him.

Now Barack Obama could be honoured with something rather more substantial – the Freedom of Dublin.

Councillors were unable to come to an agreement over the Lord Mayor of Dublin Brendan Carr’s proposal at the meeting last night, and the proposal will instead be held in September.

But what do you think – should Barack Obama be handed the Freedom of Dublin?
