Off duty garda nabs raider in armed bank robbery in Drogheda

One raider was arrested while another escaped.

AN OFF DUTY garda managed to apprehend an armed raider at a bank robbery in Louth this afternoon.

At around 3:45 two men armed with a hand gun and knife entered the bank on West Street, Drogheda and threatened staff.

They held up the workers in the bank before taking cash but they were stopped by an off duty garda on their way out.

A man is his 40s was arrested while a second man fled the scene on a motorbike.

RTÉ reports that at one point the gun was pointed at the garda and he was told to release the other alleged culprit.

A crowd gathered around the man as the garda took him down.
