Elderly man killed in Offaly car crash

The man’s car struck a ditch this morning and he was fatally injured.

A MAN IN his 80s has been killed in a car crash in Co Offaly today after his car struck a ditch.

The collision occurred at 9.30am this morning on the R439, Banagher to Birr road, at an area known locally as Taylor’s Cross. The man, who was in his early 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene and was removed to the mortuary at Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore.

The road is currently closed to facilitate forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed this crash or who has information about it to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 9169710 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
