What changes does Ibec want in the 2015 Budget?

Ibec is one of several groups making pre-budget submissions to the Oireachtas Finance Committee today, but what else is happening in Leinster House?

So, here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committee rooms today…

4 things we’ll be keeping an eye on

  • 11am, Committee Room 4: Owen Keegan – Dublin City Council chief – will come before the Transport Committee to discuss all things Garth, including the authority’s role in concert licencing. The GAA and Aiken Promotions are up tomorrow.
  • 2.30pm, Committee Room 4: Representatives from the Think Tank for Action on Social Change, Chambers Ireland, the Drinks Industry Group Ireland, and the Irish Business Employers’ Confederation (Ibec) will make pre-budget submissions to the Finance Committee.
  • 3.15pm, Dáil: The Taoiseach will be in the Opposition’s firing line during Leaders’ Questions.
  • 7.30pm, Dail: The Technical Group will put forward a motion that calls on the Government to commit to ending cuts to frontline services for people with disabilities

Everything else happening in the Dáil

  • 2pm: Having retained her position as Social Protection Minister in last week’s reshuffle, Tánaiste Joan Burton will be fielding questions related to her department this afternoon. 
  • 4.36pm: The Order of Business will be read.
  • Afterwards, the Department of Justice will refer a motion to committee-stage on the proposed Commission of Investigation into the fatal shooting of Ronan MacLochlainn, a Real IRA member who was shot by gardaí during an attempted armed robbery in Co Wicklow in 1998. There will be no debate on the subject. 
  • 5.06pm: TDs will then ask a relevant minister a number of Topical Issues.
  • 5.54pm: The lower house will debate a Bill that seeks to establish a Court of Appeal (at a level between the High Court and the Supreme Court), as decided in last October’s referendum. Debate on this piece of legislation will resume after the the Technical Group’s motion on people with disabilities outlined above.
  • 11pm: It’s a late one tonight as the Dáil won’t adjourn until 11pm.

Jobs Committee

  • 1.30pm, Room 2: Julie Sinnamon, Chief Executive of Enterprise Ireland, will attend to discuss the organisation’s Annual Report 2013.
  • 2.45pm: Dermot Divilly, Chairman Designate of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, will meet the committee.

Agriculture Committee

  • 2pm, Room 3: Representatives from the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association, the Irish Bookmakers Association and the Irish Jockeys Association will attend to discuss the Horse Racing Ireland (Amendment) Bill 2014

Communications Committee
