Old artillery shells found and made safe in Kerry

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit carried out a controlled explosion at Rossbeigh beach.

AN ARMY BOMB Disposal Team was deployed to a beach in Kerry earlier today to make safe a number of old artillery shells.

The shells, which appeared to date from the early part of last century, were found at the Rossbeigh Beach near Glenbeigh.

After they were discovered, Gardaí requested the disposal unit to attend the scene about 25km west of Killarney.

They carried out a controlled explosion after 12.30pm and the scene was declared safe at 2pm.
