Pictures and video: The 8 weirdest moments from the Olympics closing ceremony

Giant octopuses, Russell Brand, children bursting out of John Lennon’s face… It was a long night.

IT’S ALL OVER, people. Move along, there’s nothing to see here. (Well, except the Paralympics, which is possibly, if anything, better.)

The London 2012 Olympic Games concluded last night with a closing ceremony that cost around €25million. And which was apparently dreamed up by director Kim Gavin during a single feverish night, following a heavy dinner with extended cheese course.

So without further ado, here are the 8 weirdest moments:

1. Eric Idle performs Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life

Surrounded by (a) Bollywood dancers…

…and (b) singing nuns:

2. 80,000 people interact with a dead person on a giant screen

OK, it was Freddie Mercury, but still.

3. Brian May’s hair

Fourteen High Court judges died just so he could perform. That’s Jessie J he’s serenading by the way.

4. John Lennon’s giant face, containing dozens of children

They’re in there, holding up those blocks. Really.

5. Russell Brand’s outfit

Sorry – our apologies. It’s just his regular outfit.

6. Fatboy Slim appearing out of a giant inflatable octopus

Cower before me, octo-minions!*

*What he was probably saying.

7. So that’s where the Spice Girls have been this whole time

In tiny barred cages on top of taxis. I always suspected.

They lured them into captivity during the late ’90s by covering the taxis in diamante. Anyway, they performed Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life:

8. Nuclear war!

Joke! LOL. That’s just the massive fireworks display at the end. Which also looked like this:

Wow.
