This is how Paddy Power is posting its odds for the marriage referendum

The Irish bookmakers has the ‘Yes’ side as 1/10 favourites.

THE RUN UP to the same-sex marriage referendum is entering its final phase with both sides vying for votes.

And now Irish bookmakers Paddy Power has entered the discussion in typically unusual fashion.

The bookies, known for its publicity stunts, is using a a billboard attached to the side of a lorry showing two men wearing balaclavas kissing, alongside the slogan ‘Tiocfaidh Ár Lá’ – which is traditionally associated with the Republican movement. 

The publicity drive was announced with a press released entitled:

same sex marriage ref

The bookmakers is currently making a ‘Yes’ vote 1/10 on favourite, with the odds for a ‘No’ vote being 5/1. 

Dún Laoghaire is being quoted as the constituency favourite to have the highest percentage of ‘Yes’ votes.

The adverts are described by the company as ‘tongue-in-cheek’ and a spokesperson told TheDailyEdge.ie this morning, that:

We make no apologies for having a bit of fun to publicise our odds on the outcome of the Marriage Equality referendum. It is not motivated or designed to be insulting to anyone.
