Papal Legate to have private meeting with President Higgins

The Papal Legate, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, is in Ireland for the Eucharistic Congress, which enters its third day today.

THE PAPAL LEGATE, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, is to meet President Michael D Higgins today.

He is in Dublin to represent the Pope during the 50th International Eucharistic Congress, which is taking place this week.

The meeting is a private one and not part of the agenda for the Congress, but was mentioned by Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, yesterday. It is also anticipated that the Papal Legate will travel to Lough Derg in Co Donegal, where there is a penitential pilgrimage site.

A spokesperson for the Congress told TheJournal.ie that they did not have specific details on these activities, as they were part of Cardinal Ouellet’s own private schedule.

Today is the third day of the Eucharistic Congress, and it has the theme of Communion in marriage and family.

Speakers will include Archbishop Barry Hickey, who is Archbishop of Perth; Carl Anderson, who is a Supreme Knight in the Knights of Columbanus; and Archbishop of Paris, His Eminence André Cardinal Vingt Trois.
