Passenger suffers suspected heart attack on board MS Balmoral

The man has received medical attention on board the vessel, which has turned back as a “precautionary measure”.

A MAN AGED in his 50s has suffered a suspected heart attack while on board the MS Balmoral, which was retracing the route of the Titanic on the 100th year anniversary of the vessel’s maiden voyage.

A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard said a call reporting that a passenger was experiencing a suspected cardiac problem was received at about3.20pm, when the vessel was approximately 135 miles  off the Valentia coast.

The Coast Guard immediately tasked its Shannon-based helicopter to assist, and the aircraft is currently en route to the vessel. It is expected that the helicopter will rendezvous with the ship at 6.45pm.

The man has received medical attention on board the vessel, and is said to be walking, however the MS Balmoral has turned back as a precautionary measure.

The spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that such incidents are “routine” and that trained paramedics were on board all vessels.
