PAT RABBITTE HAS confessed to nodding off as he delivered an answer to a Dáil question in the chamber this afternoon.

The Communications, Energy and Natural Resources was answering a question from Sinn Féin TD Michael Colreavy about suspected sinkholes on a beach in Mayo, giving a highly technical description of why they weren’t necessarily sinkholes.

“If we have anybody left on Oireachtas Report at this stage Ceann Comhairle, they’ll certainly be fast asleep, I’m nodding off myself,” he noted with his famous dry wit.
