Patrick Halpin's death was 'as a result of a fall' and ruled not suspicious

The 18-year-old was found dead near Leicester Square on 6 February after he had gone missing while on a DCU society trip.

POST MORTEM RESULTS on the body of Patrick Halpin, who died while on a university trip to London, have found that he died as a result of brain injuries sustained during a fall.

The 18-year-old was found dead near Leicester Square on 6 February after he had gone missing while on a DCU society trip.

He was missing for about 40 hours before his body was discovered on a roof in an alleyway behind the Burger King near the main square.

An initial examination had proven inconclusive but a Metropolitan Police spokesperson has confirmed that the final post mortem found that he died “as a result of brain injuries consistent with a fall”.

Police had earlier ruled that Halpin’s death was not being treated as suspicious and the post mortem results will now form part of an inquest that will be held at Westminster’s Coroner’s Court.

The young student was buried near his family just outside Loughrea in Co. Galway.
