Elderly woman dies after being struck by garda car

The incident occurred on the Fonthill Road this morning.

A 75-YEAR-OLD woman who was struck by a garda car this morning has died.

The woman was hit by the car at St John’s Park on the Fonthill Road in Dublin at 11.20am.

She was taken by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital and a source told TheJournal.ie shortly afterwards that she was “very seriously injured”. The incident was referred to GSOC and the commission confirmed this afternoon that the woman had passed away from her injuries.

A team of GSOC investigators visited the scene earlier today.

“An update will be given with further details as soon as they become available,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Anyone with information that may be of assistance to the investigation is asked to contact GSOC at 1890 600 800.
