Pedestrian in his 30s killed after being struck by car in Laois last night

The 38-year-old was announced dead at the scene shortly after 10pm last night.

A MAN IN his 30s has been killed after he was hit by a car shortly after 10pm in Laois last night.

The 38-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene on the Ballylinan to Castlecomer road (N78) at Clonbrock, Crettyard in Laois.

He has been removed to the mortuary at Portlaoise Hospital.

The female driver of the car, aged 24, was uninjured in the collision.

Gardaí in Abbeyleix are investigating the incident, and the road is currently closed to facilitate a forensic examination of the scene.

An appeal for witnesses, or anyone who was on that stretch of road between 9.50pm and 10.40pm last night, has been issued and they are urged to contact gardaí at Abbeyleix Station on 057 8730580, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
