Petrol bombs thrown at police in Belfast for third night running

A number of men and boys have been arrested as a result of continuing violence.

POLICE CAME UNDER attack in the Woodvale Road area of Belfast for the third night in a row yesterday as loyalist protests continue.

Rioters threw at least six petrol bombs and various other missiles at PSNI officers during the incidents. Police used baton rounds but did not utilise water cannon.

One member of the PSNI was injured during the incidents. Five men and boys between the ages of 15 and 25 were arrested in the O’Neill Road area of Newtownabbey yesterday. All are answering police questions.

Since unrest broke out on the 12 July, 40 police officers have been injured and more than 35 people arrested.

Ten people were charged with various public order offences have appeared at a special sitting of Belfast MC. Eight of those appearing at court have been remanded in custody but one person pled guilty and another was released on court bail.
