IT’S 115 YEARS old, comes with its own islands, and at €145 million, it’s currently the most expensive house in America.
This property behemoth in the US state of Connecticut went on the market earlier this month with an asking price of $190 million. As a point of comparison, that’s the equivalent of two and a half times the price of the most expensive house ever sold in Ireland, which went for €58 million Shrewsbury Road in Dublin when it sold in 2005.
What do you get for your dime, besides the confirmation of your obscene wealth? The 50 acre waterfront property comes with 12 bedrooms, an 1,800 foot driveway, grass tennis courts, a private orchard, a heated swimming pool and private beaches. It currently belongs to American businessman John Rudey who works in the timber industry and bought the house in the 1980s. It was originally built for Andrew Carnegie’s business partner.
