PEOPLE IN COUNTRIES all across the world have come together at rallies today to stand in solidarity with France at a time of overwhelming grief.
In Paris, tens of thousands of people have already gathered in the Place de la Republic hours before a march to mark the nation’s defiance and sorrow in the face of this week’s terrorist attacks. Several world leaders will attend the ‘unity’ event, including Taoiseach Enda Kenny, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Germany’s Angela Merkel.
This afternoon, large crowds have been marching through a number of Irish cities, many carrying ‘Je suis Charlie’ signs.

In New York, several hundred people gathered in Washington Square Park, symbolically holding pens and pencils in the air:
French residents in Tokyo also came together at a special memorial gathering this morning.
