Pipe bomb thrown at police vehicle in west Belfast

Parts of the Culmore Gardens area had to be evacuated last night following the incident.

A PIPE BOMB was thrown at a police vehicle in the Culmore Gardens area of west Belfast last night.

Police were responding to a call about a suspected burglary in the area at around 7.30pm last night when the pipe bomb was thrown at the vehicle but it did not explode and no-one was injured.

It is believed that the original call may have been a hoax.

A number of residents had to be evacuated from the area as an army bomb disposal team had to be called to examine the device.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
