Three 'pipe bombs' discovered in Newry

The bombs were found in an area called Parkhead Crescent, police said.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are investigating the discovery of three pipe bomb type devices in Newry.

They said that the find came after searches in the area of Parkhead Crescent, Newry.

Army Technical Officers discovered three pipe bomb type devices which have been taken away for further forensic examination. A quantity of ammuniton was also recovered.

Investigations into this incident are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Davy Beck, Area Commander said:

I am happy that these potential pipe bomb type devices and ammunition have been taken off the streets of Northern Ireland. The public can rest assured that we will continue to serve the community of Newry and I would ask anyone who has any information about these items or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of the Parkhead Crescent to contact Police on 0845 600 8000.

Information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
