Female healthcare worker arrested over murder of eight babies at hospital in Chester

Police in Chester had been investigating the death of infants at the hospital since May 2017.

A HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL has been arrested by police in the UK on suspicion of murder in relation to eight babies, and the attempted murder of six more, at a hospital.

Her arrest comes after a year-long investigation into the deaths of babies at The Countess of Chester Hospital in the north of the country.

Detective inspector Paul Hughes said: “Since the start of our enquiries and, as the information gathering process has continued, the scope of the investigation has now widened.

“We are now currently investigating the deaths of 17 babies and 15 non-fatal collapses between the period of March 2015 and July 2016.”

Hughes said he was aware that this is an extremely difficult time for all the families involved, but added that he was unable to provide further details at this time.
